After the earthquake of magnitude 3.9 recorded this morning at 05.44 am and heard throughout the Neapolitan dialect, it is the director of theVesuvian Observatory, Mauro Antonio Di Vito. “Since the beginning of the year we have recorded around two thousand earthquakes with a magnitude greater than or equal to zero in the Phlegraean area, while those with a magnitude greater than 3 were only seven, including this morning’s – said the director of Neapolitan section of the INGV at the Rai.

The crust is deforming and lifting at variable rates over time, with the maximum lifting recorded in the Rione Terra di Pozzuoli. Deformation of the earth which causes stress to accumulate, generating earthquakes. There can also be earthquakes of greater magnitude, which is why we must be sure that our heritage is adequate to defend ourselves because this is our goal, that is, knowing that we live in safe places“, concluded Di Vito.
