Mayor Vincenzo Voce joins with joy and pride in the celebration of the nomination of Giovanni Prestinice, a young man of only 14 years of age from our community, as Standard Bearer of the Republic by President Sergio Mattarella. The Mayor, on the Municipality’s social media page, expressed his admiration for the extraordinary courage and commitment shown by Giovanni after the tragic shipwreck of Steccato di Cutro.
The Mayor wanted to underline the importance of President Mattarella’s gesture, who with his visit demonstrated the support and closeness of the State to the families of the victims and to our community in such a difficult moment. “Thanks to President Mattarella for this important recognition,” declared Mayor Voce.
The young Giovanni Prestinice dedicated his commitment to making known the story of the victims of the shipwreck, restoring their dignity and counteracting indifference. His work deserves the utmost recognition and gratitude from all of us. “To Giovanni, who I have already had the pleasure of knowing both as a Save The Children volunteer and as a councilor of our Children’s City Council, I extend an ideal embrace from the entire city community. I’ll wait for him on Monday in the Town Hall to renew his congratulations from the whole city.” added Mayor Voce.
