PESCARA. A summer job, especially for those studying, is an intelligent way not only to finance your training, but also to approach the world of work and gain the first experiences to include in your CV. But it’s not just students who can take advantage of summer opportunities.
If allowed by their contract, even workers who have long breaks in July and August, such as educators or teachers, can use this period to increase their income. Seasonal summer jobs mainly concern some specific sectors, first of all tourism.
Cities of art and tourist locations in general attract many visitors in summer, so businesses linked to the reception of tourists must increase staff to ensure adequate services. However, it is not only tourism that offers greater job opportunities in the summer: some agricultural activities, such as the harvesting of fruit and vegetables, take place in the summer, so companies operating in this sector need to increase their workforce.
Furthermore, summer is also the period in which there is the greatest demand for babysitters, since schools are closed and many parents work. Furthermore, in July and August students have more time to make up for their scholastic gaps, consequently the demand for private teachers to give tutoring increases.

1) LIFEGUARD

The work can also be carried out in the winter in indoor swimming pools, but in the summer the demand is naturally greater, bearing in mind that there are 19 coastal municipalities in Abruzzo where cooperatives of lifeguards mainly operate.
To carry out this profession it is necessary to be in possession of a specific license issued by the Italian Swimming Federation, as well as having good physical shape and quick reflexes. The lifeguard is the ideal job for those who love swimming and being in contact with water, whether in the pool or in the sea. On average, a lifeguard earns 1,200 euros a month.
2) BARTENDER AND WAITER
The restaurant sector is particularly thriving in the summer, especially in tourist areas, where many restaurants, bars and nightclubs open only in the summer months, so demand increases.
Working as a bartender or as a waiter or waitress requires, in addition to specific knowledge of the job, good interpersonal skills and contact with the public. Furthermore, in tourist places, at least basic knowledge of one or more foreign languages ​​may be required.
On average, a bartender earns 1,170 euros per month, while a waiter can earn 1,200.
3) Animator
Another highly sought after figure in the summer months is that of the entertainer in tourist villages. It is a job in close contact with the public, which consists of entertaining guests, adults or children, organizing events, shows and activities.
To carry out this profession it is necessary to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as knowing English and, preferably, at least one other foreign language. It is the ideal job for those who love being in contact with people in a fun and holiday context. The average earnings of an entertainer in tourist villages is around 800/900 euros per month.
4) TOURIST GUIDE
The profession of tourist guide consists of accompanying groups of tourists along various itineraries of cultural, historical or naturalistic interest, providing information on the attractions visited. Abruzzo offers many possibilities. This use can be carried out in various contexts, including museums, archaeological sites and places of natural interest. Since this is a job linked to tourism, there is generally more demand for these professional figures in the summer months.
To be able to work as a tourist guide, you need a license that qualifies you for the profession, which is obtained through a State Exam which can be accessed after graduation. Another necessary requirement for those approaching this profession is in-depth knowledge of the territory in which they operate and its historical, cultural, artistic and naturalistic aspects.
A tour guide earns on average around 1,210 euros per month.
5) LABOR IN AGRICULTURE
Summer is the harvesting period for many types of fruit and vegetables in the countryside: in the summer months many farms are looking for staff. There are no particular requirements, but it is important to have good physical prowess, be able to lift heavy loads and have good fatigue tolerance.
The role of agricultural laborer is ideal for those who love work in contact with nature, and is often also chosen by students because it allows them to earn money during the summer and to carry out a completely physical activity, useful for resting the mind afterwards a year on the books. On average, a farm worker earns 1,290 euros per month.
6) BABY SITTER
In the summer months, families’ demand for babysitters increases, because schools and nurseries are closed and working parents often need a hand.
The babysitter looks after the children, makes them play safely, helps them with their homework and, if necessary, prepares their meals.
Some families may require references, so prior experience can be extremely helpful. Furthermore, to best carry out this profession it is necessary to be familiar with children, as well as patience, creativity and imagination. The average salary of a babysitter is 8/9 euros per hour
7) TEACHER FOR REPETITIONS
There are many students, both in middle and high schools and at universities, who need to learn more about some subject or prepare for an exam. For this reason, in the summer, the demand for teachers willing to give tutoring is always very high during the summer season.
To give tutoring it is not necessary to be qualified to teach, but it is essential to have an excellent knowledge of the subject, preferably have a degree in the subject you wish to teach and have a propensity for teaching.
