Marco Travaglio did about face on the case of Antonio Scuratithe writer who was supposed to read a monologue on the 25 April during an episode of the show ‘Che Sara’ by Serena Bortone but whose speech was never broadcast. For this reason the presenter had taken the initiative and read the monologue live, raising controversy over a possible censorship by Rai. Now, the director of ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’ has revealed another version of the story. He did it, Travaglio, between the columns of his newspaper.
Trouble over the Scurati case: “There was no censorship”
According to Marco Travaglio, Rai did not carry out any censorship against the writer Antonio Scurati, who was supposed to read a monologue on April 25th live from the program ‘Che Sara’ hosted by Serena Bortone. Travaglio reports that everything would begin on April 15, when the Rai Contracts Office closed a negotiation with Scurati for a fee of 1500 euros for the guest scheduled for Saturday 20 April with a monologue on Liberation Day. The monologue is sent to Paolo Corsini and his deputy Giovanni Alibrandiboth from the Insights Directorate.
From the Insights Directorate – continues Travaglio – they decide to cancel the contract “for editorial reasons” and to propose Scurati a participation free of charge. The April 19that 5.42pm, the project manager of ‘Che Sara’ Ilaria Mecarelli send Alibrandi an email with the list of guests. Next to the name of Antonio Scurati appears the acronym “news” which means “free title“. We remember that Scurati’s arrival is scheduled for the following day, therefore – writes Travaglio – that email sent by Mecarelli would demonstrate that no censorship would have been taken against the writer. Indeed, the managers may have taken it for granted that Scurati had been notified of the change in plans, or rather that he would participate for free rather than for a fee.

Meanwhile Serena Bortone makes the case explode with his post on Instagram. The post obviously also reaches the person concerned: “The writer understandably decides not to leave. But the Rai managers never said that he shouldn’t read his monologue,” writes Travaglio.
