G7 in Turin, Extinction Rebellion blitz at the Intesa Sanpaolo skyscraper

The entrance of Intesa Sanpaolo’s skyscraper was occupied by a hundred activists of Extinction Rebellion, positioned inside and outside the hall. On the eve of the G7 on Environment, Climate and Energy, starting on Sunday 28th in Venaria Reale, XR returns to target the bank. In front of the entrance they brought a burning red earth and hoisted a banner between the tie rods of the skyscraper with the words “Seven Governments decide, while the world burns”.

It is the third action in a few days, after the clowns arrived on tricycles in front of the Rai headquarters on Friday and the demonstration at the Intesa Sanpaolo museum on Wednesday. One of the activists in front of the skyscraper is wearing a skeleton costume, a red cloak and a crown, also on fire to represent the naked King. «This Naked King symbolizes the lies of governments and big banks. The Mediterranean is a climatic red zone, one of the areas of the planet that is warming most rapidly,” said Matilde. «And Italy is a country that is paying a very high price for this crisis. To avoid a catastrophe we should immediately stop extracting and burning gas.”

But it’s not just the bank that’s in the crosshairs, Extinction Rebellion underlines how «the latest G7 summitsas well as the latest COPs, ended without concrete policies for reducing emissions with measurable objectives and defined timescales”.
