The municipal administration of Città di Castello will write the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers (PEBA) together with the citizens.
In recent days all the stakeholders of the Tiferno community involved in the urban planning process that started last February – people with disabilities, professionals, social voluntary associations, sports clubs, third sector, transport companies and schools – have been invited by the Departments of Urban Planning and Social Policies a fill out a questionnaire to help improve the accessibility of the city with suggestions and reports.
With the complete guarantee of anonymity, citizens’ responses will offer the starting point for preparing a plan of initiatives aimed at removing obstacles to mobility and accessibility of public places. The specific skills and different points of view that will emerge from the questionnaire will enrich the design of technical solutions aimed at construction of a more open, accessible and welcoming city, capable of breaking down physical and cultural barriers towards disabilities.
With an investment of 16 thousand eurosco-financed by the Region and the Municipality, the PEBA editorial team will initially concern a part of the capital of Città di Castello, where municipal offices and community services are concentrated. The chosen area extends along Via Aldo Bologni and in the school area (middle and high school, childhood and primary school in the La Tina neighbourhood), of the Belvedere Sports Center and the municipal swimming pooland then develop towards via Togliatti and via delle Terme. They will be included among the structures to be investigated to detect existing barriers the town hall, Palazzo del Podestà, the cloister of San Domenico, the two sports halls and the park of the Madonna del Latte.
This will be a fundamental turning point in the preparation of the PEBA the design of solutions aimed at achieving accessibility of selected urban spaces and buildings, with which criteria and methods of action will be defined, with rules and good practices for the maintenance of the existing and the new. To complete the study and design work, the economic estimate of the interventions and the planning of the implementation of the identified actions. Once adopted by the municipal council, the PEBA will be the subject of a participation phase with the citizens, through which observations will be collected. The citizens’ evaluations will finally be examined by the City Council, which will be responsible for the final approval of the PEBA.
