The 25th edition of the San Giorgio Don Nuccio Santoro Award took place on Friday 26 April at the Sala Federica Monteleone of the Regional Council of Calabria and Prof. Vincenzo Naymo received the San Giorgio medal precisely in relation to his educational, cultural and artistic commitment , social and historical.

The illustrious Gioiosano was awarded for all his historical research on the Modern Age with particular attention to Southern Italy and Calabria.

The San Giorgio Don Nuccio Santoro Award was born in 1999, at the suggestion of the then mayor of the city, prof. Italo Falcomatà, also in agreement with the parish of San Giorgio al Corso and its parish priest, Don Nuccio Santoro, on the occasion of the Feast of San Giorgio Martire, patron saint of the city, the award was intended as a tribute to the “Urbs Regina” and to those bodies, cultural institutions, professional associations, associations, personalities and citizens who operate in Reggio Calabria and the province.

Even when, subsequently, the Municipality of Reggio Calabria promoted the San Giorgino d’Oro, the initiative of the Anassilaos association continued, year after year, syndicate after syndicate, to complement that of the organisation. Since 2019 the Award has been held without the presence of Don Santoro, who has always committed to making the people of Reggio know and love their patron saint, “Athlete of Christ” and since then the award has taken on the name of Anassilaos San Giorgio Don Award Antonio Santoro.
