San Liberale, solemn mass in Treviso for the patron saint

Solemn mass today, April 27, in Treviso for the patron saint. The bishop Michele Tomasi he indicated San Liberale as a «layman in love with Christ, immersed in the events of the world, an image of the Risen One. A model of full, successful, resurrected humanity, because it was given and, therefore, fulfilled.” These are the words chanted in the cathedral, recalling Saint Liberale’s commitment “for the poor, for the defense of the Christian faith and for peace”.

Present at the celebration were the civil and military authorities and many members of Catholic Action, who have their patron saint in Saint Liberale. Liberale, one of the few lay patrons of a diocese, lived in the 4th century AD, in these lands of ours, between Treviso, Altino and Aquileia, where «he had encountered the living person of Jesus, in the Gospel, in preaching and in experience of the Church of his time, in close contact with his Bishop Heliodorus” recalled Tomasi. Liberale spent himself as a baptized person and as a layman in charity for the poor and in defending the Christian faith alongside his bishop. «Secular, which does not mean Christian with less intensity than other life choices» underlined Tomasi «or Christian half-service, who thinks above all of other things in life. Far from it. Secular, which means Christian who lives by Christ, and bears witness to him even within the folds of the world, with lights and contradictions, without escapes and with a decisive choice of field: Jesus, the Word, the poor”.
