From Puccini to the homage to the maestro Herbert Handt: the curtain falls on Lucca Classica

It will be there Mass for four voices by Giacomo Puccini to close tomorrow (April 28) at 5pm Saint Francis the tenth edition of Lucca Classica, on the last intense day of the festival. The first appointment in the morning is at 10, among the wonders of gardens of Villa Oliva in San Pancrazio: a memory of maestro Herbert Handt, who has directed concerts, operas and ballets there since 1970 for the Lucca musical association. The public will be offered a botanical and musical itinerary, with Marco Pardini, a well-known face of NoiTv, and the clarinet quartet of the Boccherini conservatory.

The two hundred years since the birth of the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana they will be celebrated at 10.30 am Ademollo room from the Guadagnini Quartetwhile at 11 the music of the bands will return starting from Cortile Carrara with the Giacomo Puccini Philharmonic Orchestra of Segromigno in Monte. At the same time, in the spaces of the internal combustion engine museum of the Barsanti and Matteucci Foundation, the flautist Filippo Rogai will try his hand at pieces by Telemann, Varèse and Piazzolla.

THE songs of African American prisoners in prisons in the South of the USA and the Byzantine chant for the dead taken from the Orthodox liturgy will be just two of the musical choices that the cellist Giovanni Gnocchi will present at 12pmOratory of the Guardian Angels. At the same time three other proposals in as many places in the historic center: the Ademollo room returns Lucensis Quintet in the show Seeking what is beneficial – Scenes from the life of Bohème directed by director Nicola Fanucchi; at the Boccherini auditorium a body music workshop organized by the Sinfonia music school dedicated to girls and boys aged 5 to 10; at the church of San Salvatore the notes of Chopin, Listz and Debussy interpreted by Lorenzo Ghelli, a student of the city conservatory.

The events resume in the afternoon at 3pm with the intervention of Paolo Bolpagni, director of the Ragghianti Foundationdedicated to the influences that Puccini’s aesthetics had on Italian visual arts between the end of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century.

The appointment is at the Boccherini auditorium and will be concluded by a tribute to Guadagnini Quartet to a contemporary of Puccini, the composer Leoš Janáček. Also at 3pm, but at the church of San Salvatore, Gabriele Bonci – student of the Boccherini conservatory – will perform Schumann’s Carnaval.

Outside the Walls, at 4pm, appointment with the music by Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini proposed by the Alfredo Catalani choral of Lammari directed by Antonio Cipriani: an invitation to the opera that will resonate in the chapel of the Don Gori house in Marlia.

Grand finale at 5pm in the church of San Francesco with the orchestra and choir of the Boccherini conservatory who will compete with the score of sacred music, also known as Glory Mass, composed by Giacomo Puccini at the age of 20 as an exercise for his diploma at the then Giovanni Pacini musical institute. The baritone voice will be that of Estefan Florin, the tenor Antonello Palombi. The direction of the choir is entrusted to Sara Matteucci and that of the orchestra to GianPaolo Mazzoli.
