On 27 April 2024 at 05:44 an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 and depth of 3 km was recorded in Pozzuoli (NA). The shock was also distinctly felt in the city of Naples.
This time the earth shook more strongly than usual Naples. Another earthquake ai Phlegraean Fieldsthis time of magnitude 3.9, where tremors are commonly of low magnitude. The bang was heard throughout the city, at 5.44am: Neapolitans were woken up in their sleep by the roar and in some areas, such as Bacoli, they poured into the streets. The epicenter was recorded byINGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) between Bacoli and Pozzuoli, in the Gulf of Pozzuoli. Monte di Procida, Quarto and Procida are the other closest municipalities, as the crow flies.
Mauro Di Vitodirector of the Vesuvian Observatory commented as follows: “qThis morning was one of the strongest earthquakes that have occurred in this bradyseismic crisis (rising and lowering of the ground due to earthquakes and magma under the earth’s crust) in the Phlegraean Fields. In the last few days we have recorded several individual seismic events but it is a low energy activity that is always present in the Phlegraean area. What’s different in this period is that there are many events with magnitude greater than zero”.
