“The city of Vittoria is always in the spotlight in light of the latest episodes of crime, from the attempted murder on April 25th to the murder about two months ago. The topic is delicate and very current. We feel like expressing great closeness and we stand in solidarity with the police forces who make numerous efforts to cover vast territories such as that of Vittoria. However, the tools that the State makes available to the territories are very limited.” This is what Andrea La Rosa states as city secretary of Forza Italia.
“The provincial tables for public order and security are going well – adds La Rosa – the discussions are going well, the appeals of the parties and local institutions are going well, the municipal councils open on the topic are going well, the appeals are going well of the mayors. However, there is a problem here which concerns the lack of a strong signal that must come from the State. There is a need for the presence of human resources to support the already present units that make admirable efforts. This is why we believe it is an issue that must be addressed head-on and, above all, concrete signals must come from above to protect the territories and institutions faced with enormous sacrifices. Therefore, we need a more present State, a State that makes its weight and authority felt in territories that are left alone. If we then add a judicial system that does not guarantee the certainty of punishment for those who commit crimes, the small number of police forces present in our territory, then the picture becomes truly worrying”. “We have also read – adds La Rosa – the position of the former regional parliamentarian, lawyer Carmelo Incardona, family member of a mafia victim, and we cannot but agree with what he rightly highlighted, referring to the gaps regulations in our legal system: it cannot be allowed that those who killed and caused so much pain, an organic component of mafia associations, can return to live – reside or take up residence – even if they are collaborators of justice, in the city where they killed and terrorized the entire community . Incardona is absolutely right when he says that it can also happen that you meet someone who killed your father or ordered his death in a bar, or in any public establishment, and therefore it would be right to avoid such an eventuality. The reasons are within intuition without having to resort to explanations. Without saying that the introduction of a ban in this sense would avoid or in any case make it more difficult for the same individuals to return to crime or to attempt to reorganize a criminal association, as happened in Vittoria. In short, the topic is very current, the city is experiencing a very delicate situation and public order and security are priorities, the connections and reconstructions that we read in the media in these last hours cannot and must not be underestimated. We will strongly shout that the guard must not be lowered in terms of security and the fight against the mafia, asking local politics, at all levels, to form a common front and defend our city so that it does not fall back into the dark years that we all strongly stigmatise” .
