WEDGE NEWS – It’s time for the “Globamente” Festival, the first edition of the Civic Week for Cuneo: from May 3rd a full calendar of meetings, workshops, debates, laboratories, experiences in nature, artistic events and opportunities for fun and collective reflection will try to put the spotlight on themes such as environmental sustainability, civic education, democratic participation, social cohesion.

The objective of the Civic Week is in fact to create opportunities for meeting and dialogue between citizens, institutions and organizations of civil society, to raise awareness of the need for active and conscious commitment on the issues of global citizenship, that is, the sense of belonging to a broader community, where economic, political, social, environmental and cultural aspects are interdependent and the local, national and global dimensions are interconnected.

The over 15 events on the calendar include moments for adults, families and children and teenagers: the program includes, for example, the conference “Once upon a time there was a river”, visits to the apiary, the collective sewing workshop, the ecological walk, swap party, artistic-environmental workshops and much more. The main context will be the House of the River and the River Park. As a conclusion of the Civic Week, from 14 to 26 May the exhibition “Archeoplastics, the museum of ancient waste arrived from the sea” will be set up at Palazzo Santa Croce.

The Civic Week is part of the complex project “Along the streets of Water” that the Municipality of Cuneo launched in February 2023, in partnership with the cities of Mantua and Rovereto, as part of the 2021 tender of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). Along the waterways it has already had several moments of activity in the area, all with the aim of stimulating the birth of educational communities, where citizens, institutions and civil society organizations work in synergy in the fight against climate change, support for the adoption of new lifestyles, environmental protection and sustainable management of resources, so that the citizens of today and tomorrow are more aware, responsible and active in collaborating in building a fairer future, sustainable and peaceful.

Thus the mayor Patrizia Manassero: “The Civic Week is new for Cuneo and a challenge: that of developing sensitivity and attention to the issues of global citizenship. Many people in our area are already working, in various forms, on these paths. Now the effort is to network the experiences to shine a light on these issues and create new synergies. The concept of global citizenship, however abstract it may sound, concentrates great opportunities that arise from building local communities aware of being inserted in a perimeter that goes beyond that of our cities: creating new connections is essential to face future challenges. This awareness and training journey will require time, patience and energy, but I am convinced that awareness of our global interconnections will bring added value to our city”.
