One of the most beautiful buildings in Cremona is for sale: Palazzo Cattaneo in via Oscasali. The selling price is three million euros. In recent days the announcement appeared on the real estate.it noticeboard by theMarinelli and Balzerano Agency of Naples. “Prestigious period building for sale free for a total of approximately 3,000 m2 plus approximately 1,700 m2 of uncovered areas. The complex consists of a ground floor for a total of approximately 920 m2 of rooms and technical rooms, a main floor with monumental halls and guest quarters for a total of approximately 1,350 m2 and two attics for a total of approximately 85 m2 and a cellar floor for a total of approximately 660 m2. The property includes the entrance courtyard with porticoes, for a total of approximately 700 m2 and a garden of approximately 1,000 m2.“. There was already talk of a sale of the building a few years ago. Now there is the official announcement.

Of sixteenth-century origins “It constitutes perhaps the most important renovation of an ancient building, not created from scratch, by the architect Faustino Rodi”, as Lidia Azzolini writes. The first information on the property dates back to the seventeenth century, when it was owned by the Ariberti brothers: Giovan Battista, the eldest son, and Bartolomeo who initially lived in Contrada Sforzosa (now via Milazzo) who subsequently purchased the building behind it overlooking the Oscasali district . However, the Cremonella flowed between the two properties and negotiations for coverage were underway. The sudden death of Giovan Battista Ariberti made his brother decide to sell it to the Cattaneos. Ariberti will thus retire to the palace built by his father in Piazza Filodrammatici. The welding of the buildings and the passage over the Cremonella was then carried out by the Cattaneos. Again from Lidia Azzolini’s studies, it emerges that the Marquis Antonio Cattaneo decided to entrust the renovation of the Palace to his friend-architect Faustino Rodi. The renovation concerned almost exclusively the interior of the old Ariberti house.

Thus was born the extraordinary palace with the double flight staircase with Botticino pillars and decorated on the walls with simple geometric framing and stucco decorations on the ceiling, the gallery that runs along the main courtyard, the rooms on the upper floors, the billiard room with the library behind it, the empire room, the Diana room (frescoed by Luigi Benini), rooms all arranged in a circle around the large hall ending in the dining room. Concerts of the Philharmonic Academy were once held in the hall and Rodi solved the problem of light by raising the elliptical dome. Also noteworthy are the red and green rooms and the hall of mirrors. The gallery that connects the central part to the halls on via Oscasali would have been painted by Natali.

The ownership of the palace then passed by inheritance to the Imperiali family of Rome. In the nineties the Palace was home to a recreational and cultural club, the Cattaneo club. Also used for concerts, demonstrations, events and weddings.
