Young Sicilian neurosurgeons at the Messina Polyclinic for an advanced course – SiciliaMedica.it – ​​Sicilia Medica

A day of in-depth study and training which sees protagonists for the first time young women specialists in neurosurgery.

Since ancient times, women have contributed to medicine, albeit in a context socially disadvantaged by male predominance. According to OECD sources, the percentage of female doctors has increased over time, from 29% in 1990, to 38% in 2000, 46% in 2015 and 69.4% in 2020. Even in neurosurgery, the percentage of female specialists has progressively grown thus such as school attendance, where today they represent the majority.

The event Young Women Neurosurgeons in Sicily promoted Thursday 2 Mayat Conference Center of the AOU “G. Martin” of Messina, will see Sicilian neurosurgeons engaged in a very advanced theoretical and practical course.

The course was created by Dr. Fabio Cacciola in synergy with Prof. Flavio Angileri, director of the Neurosurgery Unit of the AOU G. Martino, and with Prof Antonino GermanòDirector of the School of Specialization in Neurosurgery and President of the same course.

The day

The young new specialists and post-graduates who will take part in the day’s work will be able to combine theory and practice. The course, in fact, includes a part in which the neurosurgeons will present their experience in several specific areas, and a practical section aimed above all at new specialists and post-graduates from the schools of Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesia and Resuscitation. On the same day, a NeuroTech Mobile Experience (NTME) will be present outside the conference building, a semi-trailer, transformed into an educational theatre, with eight fully equipped laboratory stations and the possibility of hosting up to 40 people.
