Marsala, ANPI: “Shameful writing on the wall”

Marsala – Today, 26 April 2024, we woke up with a shameful writing on the wall where on 25 April the ANPI and the Municipal Administration of Marsala laid a laurel wreath, in memory of the Partisans Fighting for Freedom from Nazifascism. One wonders how it is possible that an attitude resulting from ignorance of history is still perpetuated by a group of partisans. The ANPI expresses indignation and condemnation towards gestures that are repeated every year. Referring to the words of the President of the Republic, we express our contempt and reiterate our commitment to building memory. The ANPI of Marsala, in fact, continues its research on those who, Anti-fascists, contributed to the liberation from Nazi-fascism and the affirmation of democracy.

On the adjacent wall Largo Partigiani Marsalesi a derogatory writing appeared against the partisans and those who in the most perfect lexicon of fascists and Nazis were “Jews”. Derogatory writings like this – which dust off a language that was thought to be archived – are unfortunately being frequently repeated on the walls of the city. We remember the one next to the entrance to our party headquarters not long ago. We remember the swastikas and other black symbols of many crazy weekends.

It is evident that today there is still a lack of a vision of unequivocal condemnation of the period of dictatorship which, for 20 years, shocked the entire peninsula, violently subjugating anyone who did not share the regime’s set of values. The silence of the current Government is deafening; the ambiguity, striking.

We must cherish the opportunities for collective memory, because they give us the antibodies to avoid falling into the same mistakes of the past, and remember that the Liberation was a victory for everyone. And that the RESISTANCE IS NOT OVER. April 25th is commemorated day by day.

It is to be hoped that the private cameras in the area have recorded something criminally relevant.

The writing – certainly dating back to the night between 25 and 26 April, given that it did not appear during the demonstrations on the day of liberation – has already been removed, but the fact exists and we invite the municipal administration to file a dutiful complaint.

Now and always Resistance!

Assembly of Marsala PD members

We express our firm condemnation for the writing that appeared last night on the wall adjacent to Largo dei Partigiani, right where the laurel wreath was placed yesterday.
Yet another vile fascist gesture recorded in the city of Marsala.
Let’s not forget the repeated acts of vandalism at the partisan park, the writings on the walls of the city that have been repeated in recent years, even in the PD headquarters.
This vulgar writing, however, also affects the Jewish community to which we express closeness and solidarity, demonstrating that Antonio Scurati’s monologue, censored by Rai and which yesterday echoed in the Italian squares, clearly represents the times in which we live and the the need for a certain right to close with its post-fascist past, distancing itself from and firmly condemning the twenty years of fascism and breaking ties with extremist groups.
