Turin, the Molinette emergency room closed for 18 months since June, but there is still no emergency plan in the city

In about two months Molinette Emergency Room will close for 18 months approximately, due to the extraordinary maintenance interventions already planned and financed by the Region last summer. The Courier Turin he announced it a year ago, but now we are here. The works, and the consequent interruption of the largest PS in Piedmont, should have started in March this year but for various reasons – which the most malicious attribute mainly to electoral ones – they were postponed to next June.

The restyling of the department is good even if it is unlikely to be a painless intervention. What is most worrying, in fact, is that, a year after the announcement, it has still not been approved an emergency-urgency reorganization plan capable of making up for the long stoppage of the Molinette which, with 6 doctors and 120 OSS and nurses, visits over 70 thousand people a year. An apprehension that also grows in view of the approach of one of the most delicate periods of the year: summer, and consequently the heat alarm.

Of course, now the work cannot be postponed. Despite the numerous safety measures, in fact, the emergency room on Corso Bramante needs to be redone, and we can no longer wait. Suffice it to say that almost 2 years have already passed since (it was 3 October 2022) a part of the false ceiling collapsed, by pure chance (it was night and there were no patients in that wing of the ground floor) without injuries.

In this climate of uncertainty, therefore, it is conceivable that political controversies will arise. The first part from Daniele Valle (Pd) who went on the attack yesterday: «The Dea delle Molinette, the most important emergency room in Piedmont, will have to be “cleared” in view of the renovation works (announced by Icardi for June), but today no one has any idea of where it will be placed and the not brilliant hypothesis of a technostructure in the car park seems to have faded away, since the Alpine troops would no longer have access to it, having in the meantime been destined for another use”.

Teased, thecouncilor Icardi he specified that «the Region has allocated more than abundant resources to renovate the emergency room in Corso Bramante, but does not go into the merits of the organizational part which falls to the company management».

For its part, the general management of City of Health (which is headed by Molinette) clarifies how they are «working daily to find the best solutions both from a structural and organizational point of view: the tensile structure was one of the hypotheses being examined by the Company, not the only one» . Finally, Città della Salute adds that «in recent days a meeting was held between the parties in Azienda Zero, which is responsible for coordinating the territorial and DEA emergency area, to understand what the best way to manage and compensate the influx into the various emergency rooms when work begins.” Of course, it remains difficult to understand why, despite having a year to plan the extraordinary management of the Piedmontese emergency, there is still no clear plan to test, perhaps even before the stop.
