Restoration completed. Flooding averted, Porta Galliana is reborn
Descriptive text here

It has accompanied the history of Rimini since 1200 BC and now Porta Galliana can be said to have been returned to the citizens perfectly recovered. In fact, the conservative restoration of the only medieval city gate still intact and partially visible in the city has been completed. It was the subject of a first and detailed valorization intervention already two years ago, when it was actually returned to the people of Rimini at the end of a complex valorization intervention of the archaeological area. Then, in recent months, the ancient medieval gate was at the center of further interventions, designed and carried out under the high supervision of the Superintendency of Archeology and Fine Arts. “The works – explains the administration – were designed with the aim to perfect the conservative restoration already carried out, further protecting the brick walls of the Gate and intervening on the surfaces that remained in contact with the ground during the centuries in which the monument remained underground”. In addition to the restoration works, those on the existing sewage system were completed, to guarantee its total efficiency in the event of extreme weather events that could give rise to flooding. The intervention will be completed in the next few weeks with the positioning of some descriptive totems that will tell passers-by and visitors about the history of the Gate and the interventions that have taken place over the years to date to restore it. Built in the thirteenth century to connect the city with the port area along the Marecchia river, it was part of the defensive walls due to the expansion of the city in the Frederick era (13th century). In the 15th century it was restored by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, while in the 16th century it was closed and replaced with a tower.
