The Ravenna section of Italia Nostra has filed “a detailed complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office” regarding the demolition of the Hamon towers – also featured in Michelangelo Antonioni’s film ‘Red Desert’ – against which it had expressed its opinion, taking part in a protest demonstration last April, also the granddaughter of the famous director, Elisabetta Antonioni. “Before this page of incivility and contempt”, i.e. the destruction of the two towers from the 1950s in the former Sarom area, one of the symbols of the city’s ‘skyline’ which is the subject of a demolition plan, connected to the construction of a photovoltaic park , “Italia Nostra section of Ravenna – explains the same association in a note – believing that the demolition took place without due in-depth analysis and appropriate evaluations by all the institutions and bodies that could have expressed themselves, instead, in another direction and in this way try to avoid significant damage to the heritage of Italian industrial culture, today filed a detailed complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office”. The demolition of the buildings, it is highlighted, represents “a black page of democracy and participation, written without firing a shot by the mayor of Ravenna, the Port Authority, the Superintendence and Eni, whose activities in our territory can continue in the most absolute compliance and without even an attempt at negotiation”.

In fact, continues Italia Nostra Ravenna referring to the towers, “not a single word in their defense or of rethinking on the part of the institutions which has fostered a climate of hatred, even Maestro Antonioni’s niece who generously arrived in Ravenna was misunderstood on social media for their protection, and the request for the immediate cancellation of artefacts that only served to cool water. In the background, however, the chimneys of the industrial port continue and will continue to disperse their fumes into the environment, while the former Sarom lands – concludes the note – not yet completely reclaimed they will be acquired with public money for almost 8 million”.
