There is no peace on the shabby streets of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The mayors – and there are many – who were waiting for the Region’s radical intervention to fix kilometers and kilometers of roads plagued by potholes will have to wait longer. And the problem is felt above all on Pontebbana, with specific reference to its most important and busy stretch, that is, the one between Udine and Pordenone. Blame? It’s all from the bad weather that characterized much of April throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia.

DELAY

Fvg Strade will not be able to get to work within the scheduled time to repair the kilometers of asphalt now marked by hundreds of potholes along the roads that make up the main roads of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The construction sites that were supposed to start within a few days – according to the program communicated between February and March – will instead be postponed to the second half of May, with the risk that we will have to wait until June to see at least the main and most urgent operations completed. According to what was reported by the regional councilor for Infrastructure, Cristina Amirante, there are two critical factors that have forced the Region’s machinery to slow down: on the one hand the continuous rains that have characterized the last few weeks and on the other the exceptionally low temperatures compared to the average for the period. We practically found ourselves in another unexpected winter. And in winter, as a rule, the roads are not asphalted. Above all, no radical renovations of the surface are implemented. And this is what has happened in the region in the last twenty days or so.

THE SITUATION

The result is there for all to see. The already serious situation at the end of winter has, if anything, worsened in recent days. The rains have widened the existing potholes and, especially along the Pontebbana, others have been created. The only interventions, after those relating to the positioning of signs that warn motorists of the danger, were carried out by Fvg Strade to patch up the deepest chasms. The problem, however, is that in some cases even the patches have blown under the pressure of the tires of cars and heavy vehicles. Important problems were also recorded on the former provincial road 1 “Val d’Arzino”.

Some depressions have grown so much over time that they become real pitfalls for the suspensions of cars and heavy vehicles. And this is especially true at the double curve of Orcenico Inferiore, therefore in a stretch that is already risky by nature. Those who know that stretch of road well have now learned to do the “slalom” to avoid the most disastrous situations, but the conditions of the road surface are worsening day by day. The Region, as mentioned, has been made aware of the situation. As regards the Casarsese stretch, the point that today presents the greatest risks is precisely the one recently asphalted. From Orcenico to Casarsa, above all, some holes are found near the curves. And when you get close to the two Casarsi traffic lights, things get even worse. The effect of heavy vehicles, which with their tons, braking and acceleration have created real grooves, irrelevant for other trucks, but very dangerous for cars.
