More than 100 teams and beyond 500 players coming from all over Puglia. These are the “numbers” of the regional final of Student championships – School Chess Trophy 2024 which were held on Saturday 20 April 2024 for the first time at the PalaTatarella in Cerignola, the main sports hall in the city. The province of Taranto was able to be the protagonist.
In fact, the regional phase of the School Chess Trophy – promoted by Ministry of Education as part of the student sports championships in collaboration with the Italian Chess Federation – has seen excel the junior female team of the Liceo De Sanctis Galilei of Manduria. The event, which involves the participation of male/mixed and female teams from institutes of all levels, took place following a format competitive which allowed us to enhance the talent and chess skills of the young participants.
The students Sara Deganello, Annapaola Cimino and Martina Zecca (class 5AS), Valeria Castronovo (class 4DS), Chiara Maria Longhi (class 5ASU)have demonstrated all their value, earning qualification for the national final, which will be held in Montesilvano, in the province of Pescarafrom 12 to 15 May.
«In the last five years we have achieved increasingly better results – explained the professor in charge of the project, prof. Mario Pierri – This year we qualified for the national stages for the first time. I can only have words of praise for the girls and boys, and for the attitude once again demonstrated by the high school to identify, cultivate and enhance individual talents.”
