PESARO Pier Luigi Pizzi, Luciano Pavarotti and the Italiafestival association are the protagonists of the 2024 edition of the Pesaro Music Awards, born from an intuition of the Rossini Symphony Orchestra and its president and superintendent Saul Salucci, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pesaro and the support of the main sponsor Xanitalia with the idea of recognizing a prize to excellent personalities in the music sector, who have or have had contacts and links with the city of Pesaro.

The appointment

The ceremony will take place this evening, at the Rossini theater at 9pm, with the OSR directed by maestro Noris Borgogelli who will accompany the event with pieces by various authors, dedicated to the winners. The roll of honor is very rich and has seen awards in the four previous editions: the singers Daniela Barcellona, Mariella Devia, Nicola Alaimo and Eleonora Buratto, the composer Carmine Emanuele Cella, the pianists Michele Campanella and Leone Magiera, the director and actor Saverio Marconi, the journalists Paola Molfino and Roberta Pedrotti, the tenor manager Masahiro Shimba, the choral groups of the City of Pesaro.
Pesaro by adoption, the director, set designer, costume designer, artistic director and writer Pier Luigi Pizzi, is a true pillar of Italian opera theatre, so much so that there is probably no conductor, singer, theater or festival of relevance international who has not crossed paths with that of this exceptional personality. Pizzi is particularly linked to Pesaro for the numerous installations created for the Rof. And Luciano Pavarotti is also linked to Pesaro, the city he fell in love with and to which he often moved to hold important masterclasses with his students in the Baia Flaminia residence. It is no coincidence that the lido under the San Bartolo is named after him and a life-size sculpture representing him will be inaugurated this evening in front of the Rossini theatre.

Pavarotti and the artistic legacy

Who passed away in 2007, the memory of the tenor and above all the legacy of his passion for teaching young singers have become the objectives of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation which states that «the most significant legacy he has left us is the importance of promoting music, art and culture to build a better world and the duty to share passion, knowledge and talent with others.” Present at the ceremony was the widow, president of the Foundation, Nicoletta Mantovani, who will collect the award and who declared: «All our activities want to reflect the task that Luciano had given himself and that he left us: that is, to bring opera to everyone, to spread it , make it familiar.” Of no less importance is the work carried out by Italiafestival, the multidisciplinary association formed by some of the most prestigious Italian festivals. Born in 1987 within Agis, today it represents 43 Italian festivals and 4 festival networks, which operate in the fields of music, theatre, performing arts and dance, literature and other artistic events. Among the missions, to increasingly consolidate a network that protects and promotes national festivals, because supporting festivals means supporting Italian art, culture and territory.
