PESCARA. Pescara will be the capital of Italian politics for three days: from 3 pm today until Sunday, the city will host the programmatic conference of Fratelli d’Italia entitled “Italy changes Europe” with the big names in government. The President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni he will speak on Sunday at 11.45 and, from the 2,750 square meter village on the Nave di Cascella beach, he could announce his candidacy in the European elections on 8 and 9 June; from today, 15 ministers, deputy ministers, undersecretaries, parliamentarians, managers of state-owned companies and journalists will take turns in the 5 tensile structures that ended up at the center of two exhibits – due to the occupation of the beach with a denied view of the sea.
THE CONTROVERSY The FdI deputy Guerino Testa estimates an influx of three thousand people: «The party is ready even if we are sorry that there are some rosicones who, instead of being happy that Pescara and Abruzzo are at the center of the national political debate, present complaints». But, after the inspection by the judicial police of the Prosecutor’s Office and the opening of an investigation into the permits, is there a risk that the party will end badly? «No fear», replies Testa, «because FdI has the regular authorizations. Our requests for permits have been duly examined and I don’t understand why this fuss should be raised: the attitude of the centre-left”, says the deputy, “undermines democracy while we have never contested the Unity celebration, for example. Evidently there is someone who is not resigned to the fact that FdI is the first party in Italy. Going to annoy those who do things, bring ideas to the territory up to the presence of the prime minister and invest economic resources means undermining democracy and pluralism.” According to Testa, the festival will have a tourist return: «Restaurants, hotels and B&Bs will be overrun this weekend».
CONTROLS To guarantee safety in the face of “a large turnout of the public” – these are the words of the municipal ordinance which “temporarily modifies the road system” – the city center will be armored for three days: the police station’s plan includes checkpoints and controls to «ensure the safety of the personalities present as well as guarantee maximum security for the entire duration, allow the police forces to be able to operate without hindrance, to maintain public order and safety, on the one hand, and the protection of the public and private safety, on the other”. The area of Piazza Primo Maggio will be prohibited to traffic with the closure of the coast, starting today at 3pm: a maxi pedestrian island to welcome the representatives of the Meloni government, according to a romantic reading of the ordinance; three days of inconvenience, according to a bureaucratic interpretation.
