Bari, old and new dems running at the polls

BARI – Countdown to the officialization of the list that the Democratic Party will present in view of the municipal elections in June: having established, in principle, the list of names, after having collected the availability, it will be necessary to carry out a series of internal steps until to arrive at definitive ratification in the city management.

In these hours, the list was examined by a first commission, composed of the city secretary Gianfranco Todaro, with Michele Monno, Francesco Balducci and Anna Tamborrino. Next, it will be the turn of the move to the provincial guarantee commission together with the city secretariat, which will also be extended to club secretaries. Once this small road map that the Dems have given themselves has been concluded, as mentioned, the list of candidates will arrive in the city direction for the final green light and therefore the games will be over.

Yes, but who will be part of it? The Democratic Party has decided to focus on a consolidated strategy that sees a mix between the outgoing and new faces, with some arrivals also from the Municipalities. There will be the two municipal councilors Paola Romano and Pietro Petruzzelli who will work in tandem with Micaela Paparella (as already happened in 2019, with the election of both) while the president Lorenzo Leonetti will arrive from the 1st Municipality, in tandem with Giovanna Salemmi. It remains to be determined whether another incumbent, the former deputy mayor Pierluigi Introna, will be a candidate again or will attempt to run for the presidency of the 1st Municipality. There will also be Elisabetta Vaccarella, the first of those elected in 2019, the outgoing president of the city council Michelangelo Cavone, the group leader Marco Bronzini, Domenico Scaramuzzi and Nicola Amoruso. Also in the game are Fabio Sisto, Antonio Bozzo, Gianluca Loconsole, Vincenzo Lomoro, Giuseppe Fumai, Aldo Sanseverino and, among the women. Eugenia Mariani and Donatella Durante. «We will commit ourselves to gender equality – specifies Todaro – we are working in this direction».

A separate discussion, however, in the Municipalities, especially as regards the presidencies. There are five available but, obviously, they cannot all be at Pd level. Net of the issue linked to the I, it is also to be understood whether the former municipal councilor Silvio Delle Foglie will run for the presidency of the II and whether, for the leadership of the III, the Democratic Party will decide to focus again on the outgoing president Nicola Schingaro.

And then there is the issue of the so-called “frond” to be resolved, i.e. that group, made up of leaders and militants, which does not support Vito Leccese, as the Democratic Party does compactly, but supports the other centre-left mayoral candidate Michele Laforgia . A few days ago, Titti De Simone – who leads the group of dissidents – resigned from the role of president of the city assembly, remaining, however, within the Democratic Party and maintaining the role of national director and advisor to governor Michele Emiliano. The renunciation of managerial positions is, in fact, what the Democratic Party will ask of anyone who wants to run in support of Laforgia, while “it’s a different thing for simple members” say the Dem city leaders as “that’s just a question of coherence” . “It’s one thing – they reiterate – to have a position within the party and choose another path, it’s another to just be a member, there it’s exclusively a question of coherence.” On the other hand, in circles close to Laforgia, there has been confirmation for days that “there will be Dem candidates on the lists of the progressive coalition”.
