New sequence of seismic events in the area of Phlegraean Fields. The Vesuvian Observatory has communicated to the Municipal Administration of Pozzuoli that “starting from 00.11 (local time) on 05.07.2024 a sequence of seismic events is underway in the Campi Flegrei area. At the time of issue of this press release, 35 earthquakes with magnitude Md ≥ 0 and maximum magnitude Md = 3.2± 0.3 had been preliminarily detected. The most significant event, located near the Solfatara Volcano, occurred at 03.47 local time, at a depth of 1.6 km with magnitude Md=3.2 ± 0.3“. In consideration of the above “the Municipal Administration together with the Civil Protection of the municipality of Pozzuoli is closely following the evolution of the ongoing seismic sequence and will provide subsequent updates until the phenomenon is concluded,” is underlined in a note. More information on the evolution of the uplift phase and the phenomena that accompany it can be found on the Vesuvian Observatory – INGV website (http://www.ov.ingv.it/ov/) and in the weekly and monthly bulletins of the Phlegraean Fields.

As reported by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, a seismic swarm is underway in the Campi Flegrei area, with the largest recorded events of magnitude 3.2 and 2.9“. Following the event, it is explained in a note, “the Italian Situation Room of the Civil Protection Department has been in contact with the local structures of the National Civil Protection Service.
The shock was felt by the population but from initial checks NO damage has been reported so far“.
