Scout, 70 years of MASCI: initiatives in Taranto

The Italian Catholic Adult Scout Movement (MASCI), founded on 20 June 1954, turns seventy this year. An anniversary on the occasion of which a relay was organized between the various Italian regions to present exhibitions, activities and conferences.

With the slogan “More life to life”, the association promotes three national projects that “touch on important values”:

* the gift of a thermal cradle to the First Aid and Reception Center of Lampedusa (symbol of love for a life that is born);

* the construction of a nautical carpentry workshop in Zambia (symbol of work as dignity and peace);

* the planting of a forest in Argenta, in Romagna, the place where Don Minzoni, priest, educator and scout, was killed, who at the dawn of the birth of fascism, in a clear choice of faith and courage, denounced its violence and the denial of the rights of free people and social groups and of which he was one of the first victims (symbol of life and nature to be defended every day).

On 3 and 4 May it will be Puglia’s turn to receive the relay baton.

On Friday 3 May, in Taranto, at 7.00 pm, at the premises of the San Francesco de Geronimo Parish, the MASCI Taranto 5 community will organize a meeting on the Encyclical “Fratelli Tutti”: the theme will be “every man is my brother, every woman is mine sister”. Michele FRIULI, Magister of the Taranto 5 community will coordinate the work, the priests Don Nino BORSCI, Don Mimino DAMASI and Don Ezio SUCCA will intervene.

“Every man is my brother, every woman is my sister” expresses the need to live relationships based on brotherhood fueled by dialogue, repudiating war, forced migrations, ethnic cleansing, dictatorships, corruption and slavery and instead encouraging “countries to promote joint efforts to create peaceful societies”.

On Saturday 4 May, in Piazza Giovanni XXIII in Taranto, there will be the inauguration of the exhibition for the 70th anniversary of MASCI. During the day, workshops open to citizens will take place on cyberbullying, water and life, legality (the figure of Don Peppe Diana), as well as guided tours of the Cathedral of San Cataldo. Finally, at 6.30 pm, a thanksgiving mass will be celebrated in the Church of Carmine.
