A ‘precedent’, very similar to what happened on 15 April, could complicate the position of Piero Fassino reported for the theft of a bottle of perfume from the Fiumicino duty free shop. The employees of the business who were heard as witnesses by the Polaria agents as part of the activity carried out after the episode explained how the former mayor of Turin had already been recognized as the perpetrator of a theft at Terminal 1 of the airport in the past. mid-April. On the first occasion, according to what we learn from investigative sources, the Democratic MP was not stopped. Precisely for this episode the agents also collected testimonies from other store employees who were not present on April 15th. “A banal and unfortunate episode that would have deserved a calm investigation is sensationally transforming into a media attack, a true parallel process whose only explanation is the well-known surname of the citizen involved” stated the parliamentarian’s lawyer, the lawyer Fulvio Gianaria, underlining that “for this very reason, in agreement with Piero Fassino, I postpone any comments until a future full reading of the documents”. The reports of what the duty free employees told Polaria will end up in the information that the investigators will send to the Civitavecchia Prosecutor’s Office in the next few days. Also attached to the dossier is a video from one of the many CCTV cameras present in the duty free which allegedly filmed the phases of the alleged theft. The frames of the film were acquired by Polaria which is lining up all the pieces of the story concerning a 100 euro pack of a Chanel perfume. Based on what emerges from the video, Fassino actually attempted to steal the object. And again: the parliamentarian at that moment would not have his cell phone in his hand, as he himself later said, attributing the gesture of putting the package in his pocket to the distraction of a phone call. The video, therefore, could prove decisive in clarifying the dynamics. The parliamentarian, who was leaving for Brussels, was stopped shortly after passing the cash registers of the shop by some security guards with the bottle in their pockets. In recent days, Fassino provided his version, saying that he had stopped at the duty free to buy perfume for his wife but with his suitcase in one hand and his mobile phone in the other and “not yet having three hands” he “simply put the package down of perfume in my jacket pocket, waiting to go to the checkout”. At that moment, he added, “a security officer approached me and challenged me about that act, reporting it to a police officer. I certainly didn’t intend to misappropriate a small bottle of perfume”. Fassino also claimed that he immediately offered to pay her and buy not one but two, precisely to demonstrate his good faith. After the information has been sent, the ball will be in the court of the magistrates. It will be up to the Prosecutor’s Office to decide how to proceed: the first step could be the formal opening of an investigation file and the investigators at that point, after the analysis of the documents sent by Polaria, will evaluate whether to close the proceeding or entrust the judicial police with a delegation for further investigation.
