Reggio Emilia Everything is ready for European Photography 2024, in Reggio Emilia from 26 April to 9 June. We start with the third edition of “Photophony”the musical version of the festival curated by Max Casacci (producer and founder of Subsonic). This year is dedicated to the history, present and future of an Italian music capable of fusing black and soul roots, with the complexity of contemporary urban languages, through melody and words.
Friday 26 April (9.30pm in Piazza Prampolini) will open with the concert by Thru Collected to end with live by Casino Royalewill encompass the extreme boundaries of generations compared on the same living, vocal and pulsating sound material.
Who I am
The band that first, during the 90s, triggered an authentic revolution by managing to merge melodic incisiveness with the urgencies of hip hop culture, through the digital technology of samplers combined with the impact of traditional instruments, was that of Casino Royale who among numerous personnel changes have constantly and coherently followed the routes of style, experimentation and synthesis between different languages and today – in the wake of the most recent album “Polaris” – will bring to the stage one of the most convincing live shows ever. If the Casino Royale represent the history of Italian music, the very young Neapolitans Thru Collected they seem to embody the most promising future, especially after the publication of the album “Il grande lightning”, enthusiastically received by the reviews and capable of positioning itself on the podium of the best publications of 2023.
It will be an unprecedented and spectacular short circuit that will be enriched by the presence of another “urban soul” capable of fully embodying the “present” of urban pop and soul in Italy: VENERUS. The famous Milanese producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, today considered the most important protagonist of a certain “urban” scene, will be a guest of the Casino Royale, and will sing some songs with them, giving the event a unique, unrepeatable, unmissable trait.
Saturday 27 April
In Piazza San Prospero (always at 9.30pm) the same Venus will perform a skilful DJ set that will transform the “Small Square” into a colorful dance hall without space-time boundaries.
The evening will be started by a very young rapper: Alda24 years old, born in Albania and raised in Pesaro and interpreter of introspective rhymes that are not approved and immune to the complacency of clichés.
Sunday 28 April
At 6pm at the Cavallerizza Theatre, it’s up to Mariasole Bianco & Max Casacci “From the sound of the ocean to the rhythm of the city”.
Also in this third edition of Fotofonia, after the previous appearances of Mario Tozzi and Stefano Mancuso, science and the battle for the environment will be united with music. It’s the turn of Mariasole Bianco, marine biologist, science communicator, writer, television face (Kilimangiaro), president of Worldrise, the most important Italian non-profit organization for the protection and safeguarding of the marine environment. On stage she will talk about the mysteries and astonishing curiosities of the great ocean on a carpet of natural sounds created by Max Casacci, a musician who has been committed for years to transforming noises and sound environments of nature and the metropolis into music and rhythm.
