Reggio Emilia The Lions Club Reggio Emilia Host “City of the Tricolore” established the Award to social and scholastic merit.

The award, in its first edition, will be awarded to students of lower secondary schools (formerly middle schools) in the municipality of Reggio Emilia who demonstrate a significant, concrete and tangible commitment in promoting actions that reflect the principles of responsible and active citizenship within the school and in the wider community.

The main objective of the award is to encourage, support and reward student initiatives that promote social cohesion, build positive relationships and contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive school and social environment, respecting rules, rights and duties.

To be considered eligible, student actions must meet the criteria for relevance (the action is considered relevant to the school or community when it addresses an existing need or problem in a significant way); benefit and impact (the action has a positive effect on the surrounding environment or on the lives of other people, generating positive changes); involvement (the action implies an active participation of the author and sees the involvement of other people in its realization); alignment with the values ​​and principles of citizenship (the action reflects the fundamental values ​​of responsible citizenship, inclusion, respect for rules and rights, as well as promoting conscious participation in civic social life); documentation and demonstration of the action (the action can be supported, if available, by documentation, photos, videos or other means).

It will then be up to the teachers of the schools involved, after having examined the behavior of the children in the various criteria indicated, to present the nominations of the children who are potential candidates for the Award.

The Award Committee – which is made up of the president of the “Città del Tricolore” Lions Host Club Silvano Davoli, the councilor of the Host Lions Club and secretary of the Commission Silvano Menozzi, the manager and a representative of the School Office Municipality of Reggio Emilia – will evaluate the applications received and select them on the basis of some criteria, according to some predefined percentage proportions: final average of the grades obtained in the 2023-24 school year (for 15%), evaluation of educational learning civic (for 20%), impact and relevance of the action performed (for 65%).

The three students who have particularly distinguished themselves for acts of generosity, altruism and solidarity, and therefore judged overall most deserving, will be awarded a prize of 200 euros each.

The Award obtained the patronage of the Regional School Office of Emilia-Romagna. Schools that intend to participate in the Award must send information regarding any students who deserve to be reported to the Award Committee by email ([email protected]) by 30 June.
