Venice, the G7 closes canals, streets and Piazza San Marco. City under special surveillance for two days

Countdown to conference of justice ministers within the program of Italian presidency of the G7, Thursday and Friday. Venice will be one «special surveillance» citywith hundreds of agents, perhaps like at the G20 at the Arsenale in 2021 (when there were more than 60 delegations) also because the international context today requires it and the location of the G7 is in the heart of the historic center of the lagoon. Today the last committee for order and safety in the prefecture in Venice will define the final details: it is yet another Cosp in a long series in which the police headquarters, the police forces, the institutions and the local police have shared operational and logistical information also based on needs of international delegations.

Defense on the model of April 28th

The management model it will follow the scheme of that adopted for the Pope’s visit on 28 April. On Thursday, seven justice ministers (Italy, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA) will address the topics of global debate in Venice, from wars to the international geopolitical situation, from cyber security to drug trafficking to the fight against crime and migration. Limitations on navigation

From 5 minutes past midnight on Wednesday until 6pm on Friday it will not be possible to travel along the San Biagio stream between Giudecca canal and the Rio delle Convertite, while from 7am on Wednesday to 6pm on Friday it will not be possible to occupy the spaces and bodies of water along the Grand Canal up to the intersection with Rio Sant’Agostin and Rio de San Zuane Evangelista. From 7am on Wednesday to 6pm on Friday there will be no navigation in Rio Marin, Rio de San Giacomo de l’Orio and Rio de San Zuane Evangelista. From noon to 8pm on Thursday water circulation between Rio de Sant’Agostin and Rio de San Giacomo de l’Orio is prohibited and between Rio de San Stin and the Grand Canal. On Thursday from 4.30pm the water spaces at the Actv pier in San Marco Giardinetti cannot be occupied and from 2pm it is not possible to navigate in Rio de la Canonica.

As far as practicability is concerned standinganother local police ordinance provides that from midnight and 5 minutes on Wednesday to 4 pm on Friday you will not be able to access calle de la Laca from the intersection with Calle del Campazzo, up to Campiello San Giovanni. From the same time on Thursday until 4pm on Friday, traffic is prohibited in Calle del Magazen, in calle de l’Ogio from Campiello San Giovanni to the Rio Marin foundation, in Calle Zane up to the intersection with the Forner branch. Passage will be permitted to residents and guests by showing a suitable document. The local police will be able to divert traffic, make one-way traffic and temporary prohibitions with barriers, if necessary. Also in Piazza San Marco where the ministers’ walk is scheduled for Thursday who will participate in the G7 summit.
