Arrests in Bari, Sandro Cataldo will remain under house arrest

Sandro Cataldo will remain under house arrest. The Court of Review of Bari has in fact rejected the request to cancel the arrest measure for the husband of the former Transport Councilor of the Puglia Region, Anita Maurodinoia. Cataldo is accused of criminal association aimed at electoral corruption. The reasons for the decision will be made known within 45 days. For Cataldo, the defenders Mario Malcangi and Gianlucio Smaldone had requested the annulment of the measure, highlighting that the circumstantial framework contested by the Prosecutor’s Office against him was “non-existent” as “there was no criminal association aimed at electoral corruption both the electoral corruption itself and, if any, attributable to other subjects”.

The defense had therefore filed a 44-page brief with various annexes to the review judges from which the “capillary political activity carried out by the suspect which never led him to commit crimes” emerged. Cataldo, who according to the Bari Prosecutor’s Office was the promoter of the criminal association aimed at electoral corruption, has been under house arrest since 4 April.
