Recently, the soldiers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Vicenza conducted specific checks at various points of sale of a renowned supermarket chain in the Vicenza area, as part of operations aimed at combating illicit trafficking and guaranteeing the safety of products intended for consumers .
During these checks, the financiers of the Vicenza, Bassano del Grappa, Arzignano and Thiene groups discovered and seized over 1,800 items that did not comply with consumer health and safety regulations, inflicting administrative sanctions for a total of approximately 20,000 euros.
In particular, 58 expired food products were discovered and seized, including fresh pasta and dairy products, as well as 3 products in a poor state of preservation, with obvious signs of mould, violating the provisions of the law. Expired foods were withdrawn from the market and sanctioned with a total fine of €14,000, while products in poor condition were subjected to evidentiary seizure.
Furthermore, 544 cosmetic articles were found containing the substance “Buthyphenil MethyIlpropional”, classified as a carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxic substance, the trade of which has been banned by the European Union since 2022. These products were also seized and people involved were reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Vicenza.
Finally, around 200 personal hygiene products and 956 food packages without the mandatory indications in Italian were identified, violating European and national regulations. These products were also withdrawn from the market and sanctioned with a total fine of €5,200.
In total, 1,820 products were seized during the operation, with administrative sanctions imposed for a total of 19,200 euros and the reporting of 5 people involved in the offenses found.
