VELLETRI – On May 1st the 2nd basketball memorial in memory of Romina Trenta took place at the Velletri multipurpose gym. The basketball tournament organized by the Virtus Velletri Company involved 4 under 16 teams and in particular those of Guidonia Montecelio Sport Accademy, Club Basket Frascati, ASD Basket Genzano and Virtus itself. The groups were “direct elimination” during the morning with access, in the afternoon, to the relative finals of third and fourth place or first and second.
The day, prepared down to the smallest detail, also saw a convivial moment with a lunch for the players and parents who attended which took place at the Sporting Club Ponte di Ferro center managed by the Virtus Velletri club itself.
The morning matches pitted the basketball clubs of Velletri against Genzano and those of Guidonia Montecelio against Frascati.
The afternoon finals instead saw the direct clash of Genzano against Guidonia Sport Accademy, for third and fourth place with the victory of Guidonia, and that of Virtus Velletri against Club Basket Frascati. We can say that the Final was very intense and saw fluctuating moments with a balance between the two teams, with the Frascati club scoring a small advantage at the beginning. In the final, Virtus Velletri was able to react, imposing itself and winning with a score of 75 to 64.
Many people present. Among these also the former Mayor of Velletri Orlando Pocci, the secretary of the PD Edoardo Menicocci, the Martelli Trenta family, Romina’s parents, Luciana and Alberto, her sister Mara together with her companion Mauro Spallotta and her son Giulio, Romina’s partner Vladimyr together with his son Andrea who plays with the Virtus Velletri basketball team and participated in the tournament.
The introduction to the awards ceremony was made by the President of Virtus Velletri Claudio Valentini who wanted to thank the teams present, the beautiful day spent together and the figure of dear Romina Trenta, former Councilor for Budget and Culture of the City of Velletri who passed away on January 2, 2022, who did so much, together with colleagues from past councils, also to relaunch sport and for the renovation of the multipurpose gym.
The Sports Councilor Paolo Felci intervened and awarded the teams, together with Luciana Mirimich, Romina’s mother, who recalled the figure of Romina Trenta and her political commitment which, although on different fronts compared to the current council, she has always been a loyal, prepared and serious opponent of all political forces. The Councilor recalled the relationship with Romina’s family, since they grew up in the same district, and the memories as a child and the meetings with Luciana herself.
The day passed with tranquility and happiness, permeated by a healthy competitive spirit between the teams and moments of conviviality which also manifested themselves in the afternoon with the destruction of ice creams for the spectators present.
To commemorate the day, t-shirts with the logos of the participating companies, the date and the title of the initiative were distributed; the trophies were instead offered by the Buonocore Turco family, in memory of the beautiful friendship they had with Romina Trenta herself and which they continue to have with her family.
