Olbia. The locomotive continues to run along increasingly dilapidated tracks. It is the great limit of Gallura: on the one hand the demographic boom and the growth of businesses, on the other the infrastructures which become increasingly inadequate year after year. Just think of the streets. It is still a kind of asphalted mule track that connects Olbia with Arzachena, Palau And Saint Teresa. After decades of promises and some approved projects, not even a bulldozer has yet been seen in these parts. And then there’s the Olbia-Tempio: skimpy in its own right, it has also been interrupted for ten and a half years due to the endless construction site at the foot of Monte Pino. Several times the Tag, i.e. the table of Gallura associations, protested and made his voice heard. In the end, however, nothing still moved. So now Mirko Idiligeneral secretary of Cisl Gallura, takes advantage of the recent installation of the regional council to ask for the Gallura case to be taken seriously. «The numbers say it – says Idili –. This territory has started to run again and now more than ever it represents the locomotive of the whole Sardinia. As noted by Cipnes, Gallura, driven in particular by Olbia, is also first in Italy for the growth rate of businesses. But this is an area that needs to be accompanied in this growth. Starting right from the infrastructure.”

Roads. Over a year ago the Tags had protested with flags and banners to ask for the start of construction work on the new road between Olbia and Santa Teresa. The design of the first two lots, the most important and challenging, is ready. And there would also be resources available. The Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, in January during the election campaign in Sardinia, spoke of 475 million euros already available. But no news on the start of work. «Despite the many stresses, this road is still at a standstill – says Idili -. And it certainly cannot be the current artery that still connects such important territories, which in the summer, among other things, record a very important boom in attendance. It’s dangerous and inadequate, people keep dying.” Then the Abbasanta-Buddusò, the railways of other times and of course the Olbia-Tempio, interrupted by the day of the cyclone Cleopatra. «It must be reopened – continues Idili –, but we must not focus only on Monte Pino. That section should just be a section of a street new and faster able to connect upper and lower Gallura. If we really want to accompany Gallura in its growth, we need a reflection on this territory. We are talking about interventions that can no longer be postponed.” Thus the appeal to the new governor Alessandra Todde and to the councilor for public works Antonio Piu. «Let them immediately convene the permanent table created in the past by the Region – says the secretary of the Gallura CISL –, involving mayors, social partners and Anas. We cannot continue to waste time.”

Turn the page. The current infrastructures, therefore, no longer support the weight of the numbers and development of Gallura. «This territory is looking very carefully towards two important directions: theagri-food and the nautical – underlines Mirko Idili –. And speaking of the nautical district, for this area it will represent an enormous opportunity in terms of investments, growth and employment. We can’t waste it. And I’m not just referring to material infrastructures, but also to immaterial ones. And that is to training of the highest quality. In this area we must also invest in this aspect, creating knowledge, skills and therefore new professionalism. The birth of degree courses in naval engineering in Olbia certainly goes in this direction.”
