PALERMO– In Palermo a van was stolen from Amat, the public transport company, with a worker inside who with other colleagues worked in the Cep district to renovate the pedestrian crossings. While running, the thief threw the worker out, who was rescued and admitted to Villa Sofia hospital with injuries and fractures. The van was found by the police in via Bronte, emptied of all the tools.
What happened
“The team of workers takes care of the signs for disabled people’s stations. He was carrying out work near a school. It was two in the morning when the thief entered the van and stole it. The employee was thrown out.” This is what Giuseppe Mistretta, president of Amat, states.
“These incidents of thefts and assaults are on the increase – adds the president of Amat – I would never want something tragic to happen. Every theft and every attack, including the latest on the driver by a pack of kids, has been reported and denounced.”
The mayor’s note
“The events that occurred tonight in the Cep neighborhood to the detriment of an Amat team engaged in renovating the pedestrian crossings are extremely serious – says the mayor, Roberto Lagalla -. I strongly condemn what happened with the hope that those responsible can be identified as soon as possible.
“The Amat employee was injured in this episode – adds the mayor – and my closeness and solidarity go to the Amat drivers who have recently been victims of attacks on vehicles”.
