Modena, 26 April 2024 – As tourist operators hoped, yesterday there was no shortage of visitors and athletes in the Apennines to take advantage of the fresh snow that fell in recent days. A thousand tourists and skiers in Val di Luce, full ‘high season’ crowds at Piane di Mocogno, hundreds of hikers and ski mountaineers at Lago Santo, Lago della Ninfa, Capanna Tassoni, Piandelagotti and in the other environmental destinations of the Modena mountains. Extremely satisfied yesterday at the Piane di Mocogno with the influx of people to the restaurants and the snow play area of the ‘Jenny Kinderpark’: “Despite the closed facilities – they say at the Mazzieri restaurant – we had a full house, the fresh snow really served to bring a lot of people on the plains, with happy children playing in the snow”. The park will open until Sunday from 9.30am. Good also at Lago Santo: “We had already put away the winter equipment – says Massimo ‘Tex’ Bernardi of the Vittoria refuge – but we made an effort to be welcoming even in this situation, after the Municipality opened the access road so many people were attracted by this snow that for us it was not as anomalous as the heat of the previous days.
And ‘The Valley of Wonders’ is the title of the last seasonal snowshoeing that will be held today by the Straydog group from Lake Santo to Lake Baccio among centuries-old snow-covered beech trees and the ridges that enclose the reservoir.
“After the heavy snowfalls – say the guides – we decided to offer the last winter excursion in the most beautiful place of our Apennines. Let’s take advantage of the favorable conditions, which given the rising temperatures from Saturday will not last long”. Even on Cimone, in particular at Lake Ninfa di Sestola and Polle di Riolunato, many fans of fresh snow have arrived. Enthusiastic in Val di Luce (the ski area between Fiumalbo and Abetone) for the full crowd of skiers who arrived for the extraordinary opening of three ski lifts, even under a new snowfall in the early afternoon. “Now we will check the conditions of the slopes day by day, hoping to reach Sunday and, who knows, until May 1st.”
