26.04.2024 – 2.18pm – Presented today, 26 April 2024, at the Unicusano conference room in Triesteby the center-right coalition formed by Brothers of Italy, League, Forza Italia And We Moderatesthe mayoral candidates for the province of Trieste for the municipal elections of 8 and 9 June. The centre-right coalition faces together, with the presentation of the lists (which will have the name “Centro-right” for the respective municipalities) and party symbols, the electoral round of local administrative elections, to underline political unity both in the territory of Trieste and its municipalities and at a regional level, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and in Rome. The candidates Roberto Massi (League) for San Dorligo della Valle, Chiara Puntar (Brothers of Italy) for Sgonico e Fabio Tognoni (Forza Italia) for Monrupino they come from different political formations, to give a strong and concrete signal, as he underlined Nicole Matteoni, provincial secretary of the Brothers of Italy. Present as representatives of the centre-right political forces at the press conference, together with Nicole Matteoni for Fratelli d’Italia, Paolo Polidori for the League, mayor of the municipality of Muggia, Alberto Polacco for Forza Italia, Alessandro Valerio for Us Moderates.

The electoral round for the municipalities in the area is accompanied by the competition of European elections 2024, which will see the centre-right coalition on the field shortly, but it is precisely in the territory surrounding the Julian capital, in order to be able to renew the administrations which have been traditionally left-wing for a long time, that the centre-right wants to reiterate the message of unity and clear political response. A point to underline for the centre-right is the unprecedented presentation of a coalition with a single symbolic candidate under a single list; a message, therefore, of unity despite the internal diversity of views on some issues, and of the ability to govern regardless of political affiliation within the junta, and a model of good governance to be proposed again and in which to invest to undermine a system of power which he believes has been consolidated over decades, radicalizing into positional gains while alternation is necessary. We asked the candidate for mayor of Sgonico, Chiara Puntar, what are the most important points of the centre-right’s action in view of the June elections.

You are working on preparing the electoral programme: what will be the key points, in particular for Sgonico?

“Certainly they will be those who see the valorization of the territory, the environment, tourism as their theme. We will ensure that traditions, kept at the center of our political action, bring wealth, also with a view to collaboration between the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and local authorities. Then, not secondary in importance, the attention to the safety of citizens, and the closeness to social issues; in this I will bring my experience of initiatives already undertaken, promoting the administration of the territory itself in a cohesive way”.

How do you see the transition from a tradition that has always seen a capital, Trieste, closer to centre-right policies and a surrounding area, with the plateau and its municipalities, more similar to the left?

“The example I give is Duino Aurisina, the municipality with which Sgonico borders, with the alternation of centre-right and centre-left in government. I believe that the centre-right in Sgonico would certainly go in the direction of renewing local policies for a good administration made of change, which looks at the municipalities with different eyes, maintaining the collaborations that already exist in the area. A center-right that is demonstrating that it works at all levels and is capable of bringing results even with regard to complex issues. Collaboration with the opposition political forces, where possible, in recent years has always allowed a balance that has brought benefits to the municipalities in which the majorities have alternated: it brings wealth and improvement”.

Italian renewal also brought about by women, today for the first time in national government positions, with Giorgia Meloni president, and local with Nicole Matteoni in Rome for Trieste. And finally women candidates.

“As a woman, I can definitely say yes. The choice to have a woman as mayoral candidate came from the entire coalition of centre-right parties; women can make a difference, they have a different vision in what in my opinion is the best vision, man and woman together for the administration of the territory”.
