MONUMENTAL CEMETERY OF ALEXANDRIA, NEW APPOINTMENT WITH THE CULTURAL VISITS OF ITALIA NOSTRA
The cultural visit to the Monumental Cemetery of Alessandria will take place on Sunday 5 May 2024, organized by the Alessandria Section of Italia Nostra with the collaboration of the Municipality of Alessandria, together with the company Cimiteri Alessandrini srl
The visit will follow the itinerary on the “Alexandrian women between family, society and art“. On this occasion, the function of the city’s diary attributed to the Monumental Cemetery is carried out by the storytelling suggested by the female figures linked to Alessandria, among whose tombs the visit itinerary will unfold.
There will be an introduction to the history of the cemetery and its architectural evolution as well as the main artistic elements present along the route.
There are numerous women who in the Monumental Cemetery are remembered either for their commitment within the family or for the humanitarian work carried out, for having distinguished themselves for artistic creativity or for having pushed themselves to the extreme patriotic sacrifice, by the young partisan relays mentioned in the ” Campo della Gloria” to Maria Villavecchia Bellonci, writer who created the “Premio Strega” the well-known national literary prize, from Marie Laetitia Bonaparte-Wyse, wife of the well-known Alessandria politician Urbano Rattazzi, portrayed together with her daughter Isabella Roma in the sculpture by the famous artist Augusto Rivalta, also born in Alessandria, up to Adriana Spallarossa, the only woman artist so far who appears to have worked in the Alessandria cemetery.
The visits are free of charge and will begin at 4pm. The meeting point is at the main entrance. No reservation is required.
