Here he comes strike of local public transport on Friday. The abstention from work was proclaimed for four hours, from 8.30 to 12.30, by the Faisa Confail union. At risk will be buses from Atac, RomaTpl, ATI Autoservizi Troiani/Sap, metros and trams but not regional trains. The agitation will also concern Cotral vehicles, therefore it could also affect buses, the Metromare (formerly Rome-Lido di Ostia) and the Rome-Civita Castellana-Viterbo railway.
PREVIOUS
According to the Atac website which reports, by law, the participation in strikes called in the past by Faisa Confail, when there was the general strike on 28 April 2022, workers’ participation was 21.9 percent for the surface service ( buses, trolleybuses and trams) and 5.2 percent for the operation of subways and railways granted (then still in charge of Atac). The following year, 7 July 2023, participation in the general mobilization was 40.6 percent for surface operations and 16.4 percent for operations of subways and granted railways. As for Cotral, the percentage of support for the previous four-hour national strike was 2.8%.
REASONS
Among the reasons behind the agitation called by Faisa Confail are the «strong concerns linked to the move away from the profession of bus driver and the disaffection from the “world” of transport», then, the «significant repercussions on the level of economic stability future of Tpl companies”, then “the national collective labor agreements in the sector which are increasingly disadvantageous for the workers” and, finally, “safety at work”.
REACTIONS
Reactions to the strike are raging on social media. Many people underline the coincidence of a trade union agitation called the day after the national holiday of April 25th and before a weekend while many others criticize the very first reason given for the strike, that of disaffection. Don Ugo Quinzi, president of the Association for the Protection of Public Transport Users, writes: «I’ll give you the “disaffection”. Is no awareness of users’ problems sufficient as an answer?» topped with a not exactly happy and smiling face. Or the irony of Tiberio (@tiberix69): «They’ll tackle the problem of bubbles in Coca Cola next time».
