“Nobody educates themselves alone”, is a clear message that beneath the small phoneme “ə” holds a world of possibilities. Those of a new educational community, to be built in Catania in an unconventional way, with the creation of neighborhood ateliers. These are the central themes of the round table – which will be held on Tuesday 30 April at 10.00 at the 6th Town Hall, Strada San Giorgio, 27 – which launches an initiative born within the project of the same name “Nessunə si educa da solə” created by the three associations Officina SocialMeccanica (lead organisation), Cooperativa Sociale Punto & Accapo, Rugby I Briganti ASD Onlus, with the San Giorgio Comprehensive Institute and the “Nicola Spedalieri” State Classical High School.
The initiative focuses attention on the San Giorgio neighborhood and is among the three projects financed in Catania by the Impresa Sociale Con I Bambini for the development and strengthening of the educational community in contexts of educational emergency. The intent of the next actions is the creation of neighborhood ateliers, inspired by the model of the French citoyen ateliers and according to a Freirian popular education approach.
The educational issues emerging from an analysis of the needs emerging from the monitoring of questionnaires, laboratory actions aimed at minors and training courses in community dramaturgy and service learning carried out at the Istituto Comprensivo San Giorgio will be problematised.
The open and heterogeneous groups that will make up the Ateliers – involving residents and people who gravitate to the San Giorgio neighborhood – will be committed to evaluating new tangible responses to the issues that have emerged, to then share them with the entire community. The round table “Nobody educates themselves alone” is the first official moment of opening of the neighborhood workshops, at the same time it will become an opportunity to spread the issues that have already emerged and to grasp those to be addressed.
