For the construction of the definitive bridge, the funds will come from the Tuscany Region. 21 million which will be used, as widely announced by governor Giani and local administrators, to erect the modern and efficient ford upstream of the current Romanesque bridge. There is still no certain date regarding the start-up times of the construction site, which should remain open for a total of 28 months, even if the Region has included the work in the investment package of the Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC) 2021/2027.
Ponte Buriano bis: what has been done (and what still hasn’t) to date
As regards the ancient Romanesque bridge, after having been freed from the transit of vehicles and cars, the redevelopment and restoration process will have to be defined. In this sense, last April 23, the president of the Province of Arezzo – the body that owns the infrastructure – signed the document with which the details regarding the “completion of the restoration and conservative rehabilitation of Ponte Buriano – Technical line approval of the design guidance document (dip)”.
The text of the act retraces the history of the interventions carried out on the Romanesque bridge which, as is known, in 2018-19 was closed to traffic for a long time in order to allow the rehabilitation of the rostrums and guarantee the stability of the structure. “With a view to continuity with what has already been undertaken in the project of the 1st lot – it is underlined in the document – and with the aim of guaranteeing adequate performance levels of the building in relation to the historical, cultural and functional importance of the infrastructure, will proceed: to clean the vegetation of the rostrums, arches and gables; to clean and seal the existing stucco of the rostrums, arches, gables and wing walls; the ancient pavement will be brought to light, removing the current asphalt and all underlying root system and the bridge will be enhanced with adequate lighting”. The cost? 4.5 million euros of which 2,950,000 for works, 500,000 for safety and 1,050,000 for available sums.
