Agnone celebrates on 4th and 5th May to the sound of 100 bells

The Alto Molise town is preparing to host the Gathering of the National Federation of Bell Ringers with a series of initiatives that will unite different communities to the tune of bronzes from all over Italy and abroad. An extraordinary and memorable event entitled “Chills of Peace” which will literally give voice to the most iconic symbol of solidarity and brotherhood, the very symbol of Agnone’s identity. Along the course, the city squares and squares will be hoisted with bells rung with traditional methods and melodies from the regions of origin. We will therefore discover that they speak a double language: the universal one, included in every corner of the world, and the domestic one, with voices characteristic of limited territories. It will be an apotheosis of sounds and from many of the many bell towers that distinguish the profile of Agnone a unanimous prayer for peace will be raised against today’s anguish and pain.

The Pontifical Marinelli Foundry which, with its 8 centuries of history is the longest-standing factory in the world, will be the protagonist of the event, ensuring a particular welcome to the numerous “bell lovers” (ringers, scholars, amateurs) coming from everywhere. At 5.30 pm on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May the ancient laboratories will become a theater hosting a new, original concert for strings and bells held by the Molise Symphony Orchestra. The creator and composer is the master percussionist Giulio Costanzo, who has been an “outside the bell tower” expression of the Marinelli family for many years and their musical consultant. His interest in the bell made him a formidable experimenter, the first to consider it as a real musical instrument that enters into concert together with traditional ones.

Expert guides will accompany the visitor in the precious historic center of Agnone through “the via dei Campanili” and those who book in time will be able to climb the easier towers to enjoy the suggestion of unforgettable views.

Many other surprises, often in the form of a bell, will cheer those who arrive in Agnone in the first weekend of May.
