Environmental Committees and Associations Request Urgent Interventions in Terni

Local groups are calling for immediate measures to monitor the environmental and health impacts of industrial emissions.

Groups of environmental activists and local committees, including the Prisciano-Terni Est Committee, Mountain Wilderness, WWF and Italia Nostra, have renewed their request for attention and action from the competent authorities regarding the impact of industrial emissions in the Terni area. These organizations, long committed to protecting the environment and public health, express deep concern over the lack of institutional response to their previous reports regarding air quality and food safety in the region.

The organizations highlighted the serious underestimation of the problem by the institutions, despite numerous requests. In response to this, they formally requested ARPA Umbria to install advanced devices for olfactometric, chemical and toxicological analysis. These instruments would aim to detect odors and scientifically identify the sources and causes of harmful emissions in the area adjacent to the industrial hub, in particular near the AST steel plant.

At the same time, the intervention of the ASL Umbria 2 was requested to monitor the possible health consequences of these emissions on the local population, with a particular focus on individuals with vulnerable conditions or with respiratory problems. The objective is to obtain a detailed assessment of the short, medium and long-term effects of these exposures on human health and the environment.

Furthermore, the groups insisted that ASL Umbria 2 systematically resume safety analyzes on meat, eggs, milk, vegetables and other agri-food products grown in the Terni valley. These measures are considered essential to ensure food security and protect the health of citizens in the region.

The requests of these committees and associations reflect a growing need for transparency and accountability in industrial practices and environmental monitoring policies. Their action aims to promote a significant change in the management of industrial emissions and the prevention of risks to health and the environment in Terni and the surrounding areas.
