There Corripavia, the famous foot race that last year saw the participation of almost 4 thousand athletes, it will not be done in 2024. The decision, announced by Franco Coronapresident of organizing company Cento Torriwas reluctantly taken after months of tensions with the Municipality of Pavia.
Skip the Corripavia
There lack of an adequate organizational and financial support from the municipal administration was the main reason behind this choice. In a letter sent to the mayor Fabrizio FracassiCorona explained that the growing success of the event made it necessary to structural and entrepreneurial improvement which cannot be supported exclusively by Cento Torri.
Temporary suspension?
Corona expressed hope that the suspension of Corripavia is only temporary and that, on the occasion of 500th anniversary of the Battle of Pavia in 2025you can find an agreement between the various city entities to restore the event. He also suggested the idea of convening a discussion table that would include the new mayor, who will be elected in June.
The fine
Among the reasons for Corona’s discontent there is also one fine received by Cento Torri to have marked the race route without authorization. A sanction that Corona has defined paradoxical, considering that the signs have been used without problems for twenty years.

The cancellation of Corripavia 2024 represents a serious blow for Pavia sport and for the city itself. The municipal elections in June they could be crucial for the fate of Corripavia. The new mayor will in fact have to decide whether and how to support the event, listening to the needs of the organizers and finding concrete solutions to guarantee its continuity.
