The initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture which opened free access to archaeological parks and all sites of historical and cultural interest throughout Italy aroused considerable interest and a massive public presence.

Even in Agrigento, therefore, the archaeological area of the Valley was overrun by tourists and visitors for the long weekend of April 25th and will certainly be so until May 1st.

The cultural proposal, conceived by Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, aims to make the artistic and archaeological heritage accessible to all Italian citizens as well as being an important opportunity to keep alive the memory of highly symbolic historical facts for the whole country.

Naturally, all this has led to pressing control and supervision activities by the Provincial Police Command in the archaeological areas and adjacent arteries.

The introduction of the one-way system leading down towards the Valley and the seaside area leads to greater traffic safety and an impressive influx of traffic with strong interruptions in the archaeological areas which must be managed and coordinated.

All this put the work of the Provincial Police Command directed by Pietro Amorosia and Commander Salvatore Lombardo to the test until late in the evening with women, men and vehicles used during the activities.

Several cars parked on the sides of the provincial roads were fined due to the overcrowding of private car parks full to capacity and the long queues of tourists and visitors before accessing the Valley at the two entrances of Giunone and Porta V.
