A series of events in the Chiaramonte year are about to begin in unison.

In fact, the inauguration of the four exhibitions designed for the celebrations of the bicentenary of the death (20 August 1823) of Pope Pius VII Chiaramonti from Cesena will be held tomorrow starting from 11 am.

The main event will be held in the Lignea room of the Malatestiana library in the presence of bishop Douglas Regattieri, abbot Dom Mauro Maccarinelli and mayor Enzo Lattuca.

The exhibitions are promoted by the Diocese of Cesena-Sarsina, the Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte, the Municipality of Cesena and the Malatestiana library.

In detail, these are four exhibitions dedicated to: “The books of the Pope. Pius VII Chiaramonti in the mirror of his library”: the treasures of his collection of volumes will be visible, with a journey through refined bindings, precious manuscripts, rare printed editions and curiosity. All in the Piana della Malatestiana room from 27 April to 30 June 2024 with opening hours: Monday 2pm-7pm, Tuesday-Sunday and holidays 10am-7pm and last possible entry at 6pm.

Then there are “The Pope’s Gifts”: a series of objects, liturgical vestments and artefacts connected to Chiaramonti, donated to him or by him, with a multipurpose memorial itinerary. It will be in the Palazzo Ghini hall again from tomorrow to 30 June with opening hours: Friday-Saturday 10-12/15-18; Sunday 10-12.

“The Pope’s vestments” are a selection of liturgical vestments – chasuble, dalmatic or tunic and cope – of refined execution. They are located in the church of Santa Cristina until June 30th with opening hours Friday-Saturday 10am-12pm/3pm-6pm and Sunday 10am-12pm.

Finally “The narrated Pope”: on display is an important segment of the production of prints with the events of Pius VII as a prisoner, in a range of descriptive scenes of a religious nature, but not only.

They are located in the Pio VII room of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte always until June 30th on Fridays and Saturdays 10-12 and 15-18.
