Foligno, Quintana for the 80th birthday the hypothesis of a carousel in Piazza della Repubblica arises

FOLIGNO – The Giostra della Quintana could return to Piazza della Repubblica. A return to those origins dating back to 1613 with the “Generous Stimulus of Virtute” for a special occasion. Contacted on this point by Il Messaggero, Domenico Metelli, president of the Ente Giostra della Quintana, explained it. “In 2026 – explains Metelli – the Giostra della Quintana of the modern era will celebrate its first eighty years. We are starting to think about the things to do to reach that anniversary in the right way. Therefore, re-proposing the Quintana in Piazza della Repubblica where it was jousted at the time could be one of the key events to underline eight decades of history. We are also thinking about other things and the Giostra of this and next year will be the basis for defining the eightieth anniversary programme. On Monday, then, we have a Central Committee meeting in which we will define the details for the June edition with the Giostra della Quintana de La Sfida whose events will be opened – he concludes – by the Festa del Popolano”. In fact, on May 11th, the “Festa del Popolano” will be staged inside the courtyard of Palazzo Candiotti, an open-to-all event of the Giostra della Quintana. The event is organized by all the districts with the support of the Ente Giostra, and is an opportunity for all the districts to meet and spend an evening together. Entrance is free, but the dress of a commoner is mandatory, without which you will not be able to access the event. There will be dinner and followed by games, typical of the tavern atmosphere, “rag ‘mbriaco” and “Palio di Filomè”.

THE STAGES

Meanwhile, in view of the Giostra de La Sfida, which will be held on June 15th at the Campo de li Giochi, we are starting to think about the test sessions while waiting for the “official” ones. According to what an ordinance, signed by the municipal manager of the Municipal Police Area, Simonetta Daidone, explains, the first tests, technically horse training sessions, will take place tomorrow. Next stop on May 4th and then Saturday May 18th all starting at 8.30pm. Meanwhile, the initiatives promoted by the districts also continue. On May 4th at Contrastanga, in the gardens of the “Taverna delle Sette Selle” the “Spring Festival” will be staged from 6pm to midnight. The first of five events dedicated to novices totally focused on the tavern has recently taken place in the Giotti district. and on his world which “could only give us greater satisfaction, thanks to the participation of 30 children and the involvement of many families and parents who in many cases had never crossed the threshold of our door. From mid-afternoon the young novices listened to the stories of the tavern, the Court and the kitchen from the older locals and then tried their hand at a playful workshop made of flour, eggs, meat, salt and much more, during which they kneaded, meatballed , rolled out the dough. And, in the end, everything could only end with a delicious dinner eaten with families and parents and with great, great taste”. Morlupo, however, will have a local meeting on May 5th where, among other things, the redevelopment of the local alley will be discussed starting from 10am. “The activity – Morlupo explains -, taken over by our young locals , wants to restore decorum to via del Campanile”.
