Two memoranda of understanding on anti-mafia prevention were signed today at the Interior Ministry by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto. Undersecretary Wanda Ferro was present at the signing.

On this occasion, Minister Piantedosi was keen «to underline the fruitful collaboration with Calabria and to confirm the availability of the Ministry of the Interior always alongside the Region for every initiative to protect legality. Preventing criminal attacks means ensuring real economic growth in the area, offering new opportunities for social development. Agreements like these intend to provide prevention and investigative bodies with useful tools to work side by side against those who try to illicitly appropriate resources intended for the community” underlined the owner of the Interior Ministry.

In turn, governor Occhiuto said he was «very satisfied with the constant support of the Interior Ministry and all the territorial branches of the Ministry of the Interior to the Region. The two agreements demonstrate that a different Calabria is possible and can be the protagonist of good practices”, declared President Occhiuto.

In particular, the first memorandum of understanding concerns the prevention and repression of mafia infiltration attempts in the procurement sector and in the concessions of public works, services and supplies, through the acquisition of data and subsequent processing aimed at improving identification of critical issues on the economic operators interested in the award, to protect the huge resources of the Next Generation EU (NGEU) program, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and other community and national programs. The second protocol aims to combat the infiltration of organized crime in the use of funds intended for public investments in the healthcare sector.
