And even if we say to report what happens, when the problems are at school walls are raised that seem insurmountable with the risk that the victims will also be the ones to pay the consequences. What happened last Friday in a middle school in our province is a serious episode of serious and unjustified violence committed by a boy who perhaps has more serious problems than being “just” violent. Because there is no other way to explain the gesture of taking the head of a classmate – one year younger and smaller – and slamming it on the edge of the desk, causing an injury that prompted the teacher present in the classroom to call 118. .. and the police. And as a consequence the parents filed a complaint with the military themselves and it is not the first. But now, angry and disappointed, they also want to denounce the school.
The previous The signs of problems between the bullied boy and his two classmates (because there are two of them) had already been noticed in December. In fact, the first report to the police of the town where the incident occurred was made by the minor’s father last December 8th. And the story is typical, of a boy targeted by some other physically more developed classmates. There are many episodes, from kicks to the shins to punches and slaps on the shoulders or head, or a violent intervention during physical education class complete with punishment from the teacher. Gestures that are repeated daily, so much so as to push the parents to physically accompany their child into the classroom, as well as alerting the teachers and the coordinator of what was happening, unfortunately without anything happening.
Violence And so we arrive at last Friday and the new complaint, complete with a medical report with a diagnosis that speaks of “minor head trauma with wound treated with stitches” and a ten-day prognosis. Violence occurred in the classroom, during the lesson of the mathematics teacher who was busy at that moment arranging some tests, then called by the other kids he immediately saw the bleeding boy. The parents listed the contacts of classmates who witnessed the episode, but in reality in this case the problem is not identifying the culprit, but rather solving it… the problem.
Yesterday, taking advantage of the holiday, mother, father and son came to the New Ferrara to tell what is happening. The boy still has a noticeable patch on his forehead but he is fine, he is certainly a smart guy and understands well what is happening. And as the parents themselves explain, he is thin, but not shy, when mum and dad don’t remember a detail he takes care of explaining things. And when asked whether it would be better to change school next year, he is adamant, as his mother explains: “We’ve thought about it, but we live in the village and all his friends are in that school.”
The story And we come to what happened last Friday, with the father called from school because his son was injured just as his mother arrived at the institute. «Since there is no space to park – she says -, I remained near the car that was taking up space waiting for my son, only for everyone to come out except him. When he called me my husband I put her in a space that had just been vacated and I ran to school, where the police and ambulance were present. I immediately asked to see my son, he was sitting near the machines with the mathematics teacher, who was very kind and told me that he had called the police. On the other hand, he, like the other professors, knows what problems there are.”
The bully in question is a foreign citizen, who is a year older than the victim. «After December things calmed down – says the father -, then after Easter they started again, more serious than before. After the blow he suffered on Friday, our son remained at home, but the problems began for a partner and friend of our son, who was put in the middle by the bully and one of her compatriots. The school told us that they are now keeping an eye on him, but the fact that he is in the front row doesn’t solve things.”
And the school itself is in the parents’ crosshairs: «When we reported to the police in December we also spoke to the vicar, given that the school does not have a “proper” head teacher. The problems remained and it showed. After Friday’s episode it was explained to us that the school sent a letter to the parents, they have two weeks to appeal otherwise their son will be suspended for a week, but in the meantime our son is at home.” «When I arrived at school on Friday – says the mother -, the vicar wanted to play it down but everyone knows that boy has problems, but they can’t give him a support teacher. This is why we and our lawyer have decided to sue the institute.”
