Explosion at a fuel station in Calabria leaves two workers seriously ill

Two workers were seriously injured due to an explosion that occurred in the early afternoon in a fuel service area on state road 106, on the southern outskirts of Crotone.
The explosion occurred in an underground room, where the pumps for supplying automotive gas are housed.
The two injured are maintenance workers who were carrying out already scheduled work.
The explosion generated a fire that hit the two workers. The air ambulance also arrived on site and the resuscitator proceeded to intubate the most serious of the injured in the Suem 118 ambulance of Crotone, who was then transferred by air to the Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in Catanzaro with serious burns. The other injured person was taken to Crotone hospital with serious burns on his hands and arms and is waiting to be transferred to the major burns center in Brindisi or Catania.
The 118 health workers, firefighters from the Crotone provincial command and men from the state police were on site. State road 106 was closed to traffic for a few hours to allow the air ambulance to land on the roadway.
Investigations by the fire brigade and the police are underway to ascertain the causes of the accident. The two injured people are under guard.
