Tax returns, Latina is the richest city in the province

How far we are from the top ten in the ranking of the richest municipalities in Italy. From the analysis of the data emerging from the declarations presented last year relating to 2022 incomes, the Pontine province finds itself straddling the national average which stood at 21,752 euros per capita, but with only four cities above this threshold. The richest, again this year, is Latina: the per capita income in the capital was equal to 22 thousand 401 euros with an increase of 4.65% compared to a year ago (21,405). Only one other city has broken through the 22 thousand euro mark: Gaeta (per capita income of 22,167 euros and a growth of 4.37%). Last year the two centers were the only ones where incomes exceeded 21 thousand euros. Then there are 3 other cities above 20 thousand euros in per capita income, one more than in 2023. The new entry is Sabaudia with an income of 20,128 euros, surpassed by Sermoneta (20,828) and Formia (21,376).

All the other Pontine centers are below the national average. Of these there are four under 16 thousand euros: Sonnino, Campodimele, Prossedi and Monte San Biagio. Then there is Ponza, just above this threshold, and, surprise, Fondi. The city known for its fruit and vegetable market which in terms of numbers and importance rivals that of Milan, the city which boasts an area full of leading agricultural activities, has rearguard numbers in last year’s declarations. The per capita income is just 16,404 euros with an increase of 5.35% compared to the previous year, just 350 euros more than in Ponza which stopped at 16,051. The most famous of the Pontine towns, overrun by tourists in the summer season, declares much less than its twin Ventotene where the per capita income was sensationally higher (19,165 euros).

In fact, Ventotene recorded record growth compared to the previous year when the per capita income was 17,526 euros, with a leap of 9.35%, the highest in the entire province, the only center capable of growing more than inflation. Only 3 other Pontine municipalities have come close, growing more than 7 percent (Monte San Biagio, Roccagorga and San Felice Circeo).

The other larger centers went so-so. Aprilia recorded a per capita income of 19,380 euros, Terracina did worse (18,198), and Cisterna did even worse (17,919). Further back Sezze: 16,635. Among the tourist locations, Sabaudia is the one with the highest per capita income (20,128), followed by Sperlonga (19,282), Ventotene, Minturno (18,663) and San Felice Circeo (18,440).

Obviously these are data referring to the total income declared by natural persons (before deductions and deductions) and which, even in 2022, largely derives from salaries and pensions.
